UPDATE
I did all of that and still my lock isn't operating properly on the driver's side.... So I went and ordered a new actuator which I installed today. Still not working right. I only have the actuator connected to the latch. Neither the inside or outside handle is attached and I'm not running the rod through the guide so as to eliminate any possible source of drag.
Thanks for sharing your information.
I did basicly what you did.
Since I got the truck,
(97 Seirra EC 3 door Z71)
My electric locks gave noise of working when the elec buttons were activated, and a ill 'huuuh' half hearted attempt at moving, but didn't throw locks. I opened door, wiped rods clean as I could, lubed them with silicone spray. I used a seal pick, punctured a small hole in boot and got the WD can tube in there for a few shots to loosen the old crud up.
Now, upon lock button activation, passenger side is like new, Impresses the guests now.
Drivers side, the lock rod to the interior knob, its moving just as good as psssenger side. However, now, linkage seems to over travel upon unlock, with interior the slide moving too far up, with the linkage mechanism now binding somewhere. I need to physically push interior lock down to engage the lock again. Might be a good 'don't lock yourself out, again' feature but not correct operation.

What malfunction did you experience?
Did you resolve it?

The lock rod for the interior handle has been straightened and is now a smidge too long? Should be exactly 28"

Also, as just a general observation, I think all door locks need to be dealt with in unison. A sticky one somewhere will make all doors weaker.

Ahh, possibility. Will look into it when I do the door handles.
PO was a doofus, so I'd confidently say he touched it. Everywhere I see his 'handiwork' I find new 'how not to fix things correctly' techniques.

Hey everyone, I just realized that I haven't posted a recent update. I got my lock situation figured out. It turns out that I put the clip end of the short vertical rod through the outside handle lever the wrong way. I don't remember now if it goes from front to back or back to front, but whichever way it goes, I had it going the other way. I think I went through 3 or 4 actuators and 3 latch mechanisms before I finally figured it out. Ugh! Anyway, if you are putting things together and are having a binding problem, that may be why.
