Very nice truck and congrats on passing the PE. I'm a civil engineer in the St. Paul area, also hoping to get my license in the next year or so, got to get the FE first, already have the working requirement. I'm jealous of your truck, mine is a Minnesota truck and I've snapped more bolts on it than I can count.

Thanks for the kind words @Salty K1500 ! Go for the PE, it is worth it.

I found this on Jegs. I am looking into this. Trying to get pipe size dimensions from them. I would like slightly bigger tubes than stock. As long as I am replacing the cat assembly, I would like to go for an upgrade if possible.

Heck yeah, do the exhaust. I don't know much about performance changes from new exhaust, but an aftermarket muffler with a little rumble is always good, as is the look of having two pipes sticking out from the rear bumper. If you're located near Ramsey County, I recommend Dave's Custom Exhaust in St. Paul for install if you don't do it yourself. Good work for cheap, they're located on the east side in the Payne-Phalen area, kinda rough neighborhood but worth the work. Just maybe carry if you have a permit.

After I loosened up the CAT/Y Pipe assembly I had a newly formed exhaust leak once I tightened everything back up. I found that part of the gasket down stream of the cat as it mates to the mid pipe had broken apart when I loosened things up. I didn't like the exhaust leak (sound and smell) so I thought I would toss a new gasket in until I figure out what route I am going to take to replace the Y pipe.

I installed a new gasket last night....and it sorta worked. I was able to get the new gasket in but there was still a small leak on start up. So I went to tighten the center nut a bit more and apparently I applied to many foot pounds because I snapped the dang stud :(

I snugged the remaining two studs down as much has I thought I could and that is where she sits now. Still has a leak but it is less than before so for now that is a win.

On a positive note, the leak is down stream of the CAT that has the CEL. With the leak the CEL has gone away! Guessing that the leak has changed the reading of the downstream O2 sensor and brought it back into range.

Right now I am not super stoked with any of the aftermarket options I am seeing for the Y Pipe / CAT assembly. The jegs unit looks decent but the pipes are not stainless and they can't tell me what diameter each tube is. Based on @Salty K1500 recommending going to a local shop I am thinking of going that route. I found a shop closer to me that says they will do a custom setup. Tim's Custom Exhaust. I need to call them and see what they quote. https://timscustomexhaust.com/

Hammer that stud out and toss a bolt through it? Or take drastic measures. I
i.e. Muffler cement and vice grips....

I was wondering if it would be as easy as just hammering that stud out? I guess I didn't look closely enough last night to see if it was just pressed in or actually welded.

No firsthand experience with that stud, just tossing it out there. I see several options open though.
1) hammer press it out
2) grind head off with death wheel and hammer press the rest out
3) drill it all out

Edit: fixing my oversight that was pointed out (post 59) regarding damaging the cat by hammering on it. And wasted energy.

I believe those studs are just pressed in but you may want to try to use a tool to press it out, instead of hammering. Since it's on that assembly just hanging there, a lot of your hammer blow energy is going to get wasted - into the catalytic converter, which could loosen the core and cause it to start rattling (or worse, break up)...just my amateur's opinion on that, though.

Otherwise, out of those 3 options, 2 and 3 sound better than 1.

Good call Richard. Thanks for pointing out what I overlooked. Off to edit above post.
