Hello!
Been lurking for a bit and wanted to introduce myself!
Got this beauty about 9 or so months ago. Was originally just wanting a beater truck that didn't look too bad for the HOA being parked outside. Went from expecting a truck I didn't have to care that much about to one that I wash regularly and gets parked in the garage haha! It's a 1995 K1500 Cheyenne with a 5 speed manual, 305, 92k miles, dual exhaust, and just a little surface rust underneath.
Doing the work on it myself, just simple maintenance so far and replaced the turn signal switch after breaking off the hazzard switch when pulling the dash facade for my headunit.
Plans: Putting together a stereo at the moment (amps, speakers, alternator, dsp, big 3, etc.). BFG A/T tires, core shifters stick shift, spare tire, dual batteries. May mess with headers and maybe a new cam down the road, but has enough power and get up and go for me right now, plus it sounds mean already with the exhaust.
What I love: She's a beauty. Rides so nice with no rattles for being so old. Didn't think I would ever own another stick shift and am absolutely elated having a clutch and stick again (grew up driving old air cooled VWs with manuals). When I was shopping around, every single truck was an auto. I love all the space under the hood to work on it. I know people love carpet interiors, but I absolutely love the rubber floor for cleaning and utility.
Problems: Not many, fixed most of the quirky dome light and interior stuff with new switches and fuses that were blown. I do have a bit of the bouncy fuel needle, but it's not bad yet, not sure if its the gauge motor or the fuel sending unit. Had to replace the starter, upgraded with a high torque Powermaster and was a breeze to replace.
Thanks for all the great and helpful discussions and info!
PS. I can't post in Wanting to Buy forum yet, but anyone have the infamous driver side metal battery tray with support? It's been absolutely impossible to find.
