I usually hit a parts store or local farm supply stores. They all seem to carry what I need. But I'm sure they are all the same brand or one or two manufacturers at least.
Anything else is probably more than I'm willing to spend. Like the car audio stuff, that can get really expensive really fast!
I wonder if companies like Painless Wiring or the like sell spools.
The parts stores carry red and blue 18gauge it seems and that’s it. Farm supply around here has about the same, maybe bigger stuff but not in the colors I would like. I hear ya on the car audio stuff. I’ve got probably $2K of wiring, subs, and amps stashed away in my closet. Someday it will make an appearance on the GMC.
I use TXL wiring. It’s good stuff and is has been in use by GM in newer vehicles for quite a few years now. I order what I need from GM but I can check for who the supplier is and part numbers. Painless sells it among other places.
Thanks for that! I will give that a look. Seems like it could be good stuff since GM uses it.
There it is! I couldn’t find that link but knew I’d been there before. Thanks, Richard and
@Erik the Awful.
Be careful with buying "automotive" wire from your favorite auto "box" store. Most of their wire is nylon coated and will easily melt in hi-heat conditions. It's also not as versatile TXL or GXL grade wire
Absolutely agree. I tend to avoid anything from those stores for something critical like wiring. Thank you for the links as well.
I’ll begin to inventory what I need and go from there. I can’t decide if I want to take the harness loose from the truck and work on it on a bench or do it on the vehicle. I think the firewall connector under the heater core can be a PITA, no?
