I recommended the cheap and easy Diff actuator socket because that somehow worked on my Plow Truck with the same TCase problem. It would pop into neutral under a heavy load like he was doing in the sand. IDK if its something with having the front diff start binding because it wasnt fully seated or what but its been years now with that socket in the diff and it hasnt popped out again.
And with the actuator socket does the truck always stay in 4x4?

You can still shift the transfer case into 2wd like normal and you get normal drivability but the front end components keep spinning for lower gas mileage.

Edit, and probably more wear on the front driveshaft u-joints if you drive it on the highway a lot like this.

My '94 did the same thing, I rebuilt the transfer case, shift forks, one gear was damaged. Pretty easy to see what was worn. Been working for 15 years or so. Have fun.
