    TH400 strange park pawl issue.

Yeah absolutely! Not even something I would usually check, but it will now be part of my diagnostic process in the future!

    TH400 strange park pawl issue.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ati-402110 It's called a rooster or "comb" it's the internal gear selector. They coined it a "rooster" because when it's flipped upside-down it resembles the head of a rooster. Link attached.

    TH400 strange park pawl issue.

Well if nothing else this was good for documentation purposes for when someone else inevitably comes across this issue hahaha. And very interesting I gotta dig around in this pan and see if I can find that broken rivet. And yeah all is well, nothing catastrophic happened the truck simply...

    TH400 strange park pawl issue.

Problem identified. The steel plunger piece that interfaces with the park pawl was broken in half. Pictures attached. Never seen this before.

And is this bracket facing the right way or do I need to flip it?

    TH400 strange park pawl issue.

Hello again fellas. Tore into the TH400 on this '89 K3500 and have come across an odd issue. Everything is very clean and looks brand new basically. The park pawl and bracket look perfect, the return spring is springing. And the rooster moves through the gears freely and with little effort...

    Tightening shift linkage on a TH400 ('89 K3500)

Hey fellas, just trying to confirm if what I'm doing is correct. I have an 89 K3500 that won't quite go into park. I only see one adjustment point right next to the steering column (pictures attached). I'm assuming I just loosen that bolt and move the linkage rod up slightly? Thanks, -J

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Yeah I could do that but blind hinges are gonna leave it looking a lot cleaner than 4-8 bolt heads poking up in the bed. I don't intend to be in there again any time soon I just want it to look as nice as I can make it. I'll post a Pic when I'm done, hopefully it will be barely perceivable when...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Okay fellas, she lives again. Cut an access panel for the fuel pump/sending unit, replaced pump and fsu, literally every sensor, did a new cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, and fixed some dirty grounds and connections and she is singing. New chip will be here tomorrow, then I'll pull the...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Funny that you mention neighbors, he came over yesterday evening asking if I wanted an extra pair of hands and I told him I just figured it out and it was fixed after I had swapped the MAP sensor hahaha. Looks like I'll be buying him a 6 pack today! And yeah he was definitely just trying to...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Okay then I should probably just bite the bullet and drop the tank. I REALLY wish I hadn't just topped the thing off! Hahaha. I could see the tester I have being off a few psi but if it's only reading one third of what it should be I think it's safe to assume the pump is on its way out, I...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Thank you for the thorough and concise response. That makes perfect sense to me. I will grab the pressure gauge you recommended. Here's another question, I'm having issues finding a live data obd1 scan tool. I can find several models online, but all of them say "discontinued" or "currently...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

I forgot to elaborate on why it made sense to me, the guy at Napa said the pressure in the large fuel line is always lower than what's actually going into your engine, as the line chokes down pressure increases so in that big wide line 5-6psi would equal 10-12psi in a line half the size. It made...

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

I have 0 confidence in the pressure tester I'm using. It's a harbor freight special that maxes out at 10psi. It is specifically marketed at a "fuel pump tester" I hooked it up just in front of the fuel filter on the drivers side, I know 8-15 is standard but this isn't an "inline" type tester...

Problem solved! Bad MAP sensor was the culprit. Those manuals are top notch, thanks again!

Okay I'll go check all of the vacuum lines before it gets dark, much appreciated.

'89 K3500 VERY rough idle, losing power while accelerating, hard to start.

Hey there everyone, first time posting here. As the title states, I have an '89 K3500 454tbi that just developed a very nasty idle and throttle issue. The truck will only start when I hit the gas pedal, and once it starts it wants to die, and then once it catches itself the idle bounces between...
