OEM 16x6.5 6 lugs for my 89 found...now the questions

Big thanks to @JS45 ...He straightened me out on the center caps and lug nuts required. Went with Toyo Open Country A/T III in 235/85/16 (9.25 wide, 31.75 tall, 7-7/8 sidewall). I've had such great experiences with Toyos, so I stuck with that.

    Best deep muffler for 5.7

I've paid attention to Calvin Elston over the years- he may be one of, if not THE most talented behind the scenes guys in exhaust science and header fabrication. In his opinion, the most important factors in exhaust design (for a given engine combination) are- -pipe diameter, bends immediately...

    Hello! New member from Alabama

This forum is awesome! Thanks for all the help, everyone. Since joining, I've converted my 195k mile 1989 K1500 to Vortec, sourced a complete set of N67 Rallye wheels, swapped the steering shaft to a 1994 Cherokee and about to clear coat the patina'd paint. Wouldn't have happened without...

Used to ceramic coat, now KBS coatings

I wanted to share my experiences with KBS coatings products. I'd rather not think about the money I've spent over the years (mostly with Swaintech) ceramic coating exhaust valves, pistons, turbine housings, headers, various exhaust, etc. About 2 years ago, I tried KBS "XTC" coatings (using a...

OEM 16x6.5 6 lugs for my 89 found...now the questions

I've researched the info I could find here, but.. I have a stock suspension 1989 K1500 and I wanted the original wheel (N67) the truck came with- Found a OEM set today (deal of a lifetime, really- $75 with beauty rings), but I'm having trouble making sense of: -Which center cap fit my wheels...

TBI SS fuel line fitting sizes?

Info for someone else converting with ICT Billet PNs (uses stock 37* flares to 6 A/N)

TBI SS fuel line fitting sizes?

It's a flare- I found these fittings on Amascam: "ICT Billet TBI/Vortec 87-98 Truck 6AN Male Flare Return Fuel Line Adapter Fitting to Female M14-1.5 Oring" It's a M16 supply, same style fitting.

TBI SS fuel line fitting sizes?

Help! I'm going to convert the SS TBI lines at the intake manifold to A/N or whatever style fitting- anyone know if that's a 37* flare on the GM factory SS TBI feed / return? It appears the feed is 3/8 and return is 5/16- is that correct? I searched and found info about converting a L31...

    Knock sensor guru needed.

Yes, it absolutely will- good catch. The resonant frequencies and resultant reference tables used by ECM are based not only on the impedance of the KS, but the mechanical position. A KS mounted on the cylinder head gives totally different respponse to one mounted on the side of the block, for...

Looking for performance heads open to options.

As opposed to what you have (assuming your engine has Vortec heads prone to cracking) I'm using the Summit 151124 Vortec heads; supposedly they are cast by Dart. According to a quote I read from somewhere reputable, a GM Performance cylinder head guy stated bone stock Vortecs with a good...

    Head scratcher

Great posts, everyone. New guy here- In all humility, this is a subject I'm passionate about and want to share without sounding like a pompous know-it-all: The once upon a time answer from piston manufacturers (when we were making less than 3 hp/c.i.) was the "accumulator groove" between the...

    Why everyone carb swapping?

Respectfully disagree with the absolutes in that- My friends and I all have tuned EFI (batch, SD, Alpha-n, MAF) both in DD and sub 5.50 sec street applications since 2002. I've been tuning Holley-based carbs since 1980. My current project is converting my 1989 TBI GMT400 to carb'd, HEI'd...

What block do i have 2 bolt or 4 bolt

Just to add to this excellent thread: My 1989 Silverado 4x4 block was- Engine ID: V0930TPA (K vin L05, Flint plant, Sept 30, 1988) Casting # 14093638 It had the spider bosses tapped, the cam retainer bosses tapped (wide version). I just dropped the pan, so I'll report back if it's 2 bolt...

I can either bump an old thread with a question relevant to the topic, or start a new thread. Which would the moderators prefer here? In my mind, asking the question here prevents others from searching numerous threads for a similar question.

    Street-able NA 454 7.4L build

Or you could lurk on Speed-Talk forum and search his posts. He was / is? involved in many many BBC conversations there. Re: BBC valvesprings. BBCs are the diesel engines of the gasoline ICE world- I'd make sure they had seat pressure and leave it at that, unless you're putting a camshaft in...

    Street-able NA 454 7.4L build

It's a long-known "low-buck trick" to use square port intake manifolds on oval port heads. It works. Would I use it on a 13:1 540? No, but we're talking about budget tinkering here. Mark @ VortecPro would be the guy I would email if I were building something along those lines- few in the...

What block do i have 2 bolt or 4 bolt

My September 88 TBI block (1989 Silverado Fleetside K1500), unopened, unmolested had the spider risers machined for 5/16-18 bolts. I was pleasantly surprised.

    Carb vs tbi

I doubt it. I'm swapping to a square bore carb, but I fully expect to get less mileage- Though about 75-100 more horsepower due to cylinder heads, exhaust, intake manifold and HR camshaft. FI (even TBI) dominates in the fuel efficiency world.

    Hello! New member from Alabama

Love it. Exactly my kind of crowd. I'm sure I'll learn a lot here, and maybe swap some parts. I'm jettisoning the entire TBI system for a carb and HEI, and need interior parts. Junkyards around here are a thing of the past, unfortunately.

Silly question for the TBI-Vortec HR folks?

Update- the engine was made in September of 88, but it does in fact have tapped bosses (Thank you Jesus). I won't be doing any experimenting on this one, lol. Thanks for the help, everyone!

Silly question for the TBI-Vortec HR folks?

Thanks for your response. With all respect, in my experience I'm doubtful solid lifters with 125-130 lbs seat pressure and 0.450" lift would require more than a simple check every year or so, unlike a SR camshaft with ~0.700 lift, 240 lbs on the seat and inverted radius / ramp rates out the...
