I finally got around to removing oil pan.
A piece of cylinder #8 piston skirt. A balled up/shriveled oil pump pickup. A lot of little metal shavings. I wish I had opened this engine up before installing it. Now I plan to replace the pickup and to clean the oil pan and tighten and or replace the bearings that were noisy. Any advice?
A budget friendly solution to this is to start watching the classifieds for trucks that just lost the transmission. I have no idea why, but there are lots of people in this world who take great care of the engine and never do anything to the transmission. I have even found ones cheap that have new crate motors, but when the transmission goes they sell it for junk. Part out the remaining truck and you have a free engine. This spring I bought an 02 k1500 for $1000 because I wanted the front seats and 411 computer, got a red top optima battery too. I have sold $975 in parts to date. So I got six way power heated leather seats, a 411, and battery for $25.
