Hello all this is my first post here and I’m hoping to gain some insight reguarding my wiper fluid system just incase I’m missing something

A little background… I purchased a 95 chevy k1500 ext cab 2 door not long ago. PO didn’t take very good care of it as he let things go for too long which led to me putting a crate motor in it and completely rebuilding the transmission. No worries because it’s running like a top now and now I’m trying to tidy up the litttle things

Trying to get my washer fluid to work properly. So far I’ve replaced the cowl, it was cracked in 2 when I went to tackle this job so I ordered a new one, I’ve got new nozzles in it. All new rubber hose. A new pump and grommet. I’m getting a leak behind my driver side front tire still and I can’t understand why because everything is new. Washer fluid works it just seems like the motor has to re prime itself everytime I engage them on the stalk. Why is this? Do I need a check valve in the system? And why am I getting a leak behind the front tire? Is the system getting too much pressure from the lack of a check valve causing it to leak at the new y connector under the cowl? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a dumb question. It’s got me confused.

I've had this issue on one of my cars, but haven't pursued fixing it, as thoroughly as you have.

Did you replace any fittings? I'd guess you've got a crack someplace along the line. You could try a check valve. I've contemplated getting one. There might be a check valve that was built into the system that's no longer working. I suspect that's part of the issue in my case.

Pull it off, where is leak coming from? Is the tank damaged and never repaired?

Yeah I’ve replaced the one y connector located under the cowl that splits the driver side nozzle hose and the passanger side hose. Also all the lines are new. I wonder if these come factory with a check valve in the system. If they do, the PO must have got rid of it. As the whole system was a mess when I started digging into it.

Is the water leak at wheel washer fluid? Follow the trail back up. Operate the pump while watching where the water comes from.
Yes it’s washer fluid. I did remove it last night and take the lines out from the firewall without the nozzles hooked to them and engaged the stalk but couldn’t find any leaks. Everything was dry including the y fitting.

Not sure if the leak will show up with the lower line pressure from the nozzles being disconnected. Wonder if your new line got nicked somewhere at the store or during shipping. Does change in temperature affect the leak?

I was thinking about that as well. Tomorrow I will try to hook nozzles to the lines and test them that way

Well my curiosity got the best of me so I went out to the truck and hooked the nozzles to both lines and shot the fluid. No leaks and everything is working normal except when I let off the sprayer and could hear all the fluid retracting back to the resivoir in a bubble noise
