Hope I've got the right sub-board/topic (Maintenance)

A couple months ago, I inherited a '94 Chevy C1500 that'd been neglected/used as a yard truck for 15 years, I'm using it for Lowes runs/wood projects, but it's been a costly little repair sink.

I noticed today there was a lot of bouncing in the suspension at low speeds, I always thought it was a warped rotor or the drum-brakes needing replacement.. I went to look underneath it, and found a *ton* of rust in the frame, like rotten/rusted hollow..

Questions for those in the know:
1) Is this even repairable? (The truck itself I mean, I know this section is toast)
1a) ..if it is repairable, anyone want to venture a scientific wildass guess at the $ ballpark I'm in? I see the full frames run on some of these hobby sites for $15k, and at that point I'm definitely out..

2) Is this a death-trap at this point?

What is this bar with the detached U-clip? And the thing it is attached to?

Ho-ree-schmokes!

That hanging bar with the dislocated u-strap is the sway bar, not that it’s important at this point. I’m sure the front of that truck sways around a whole bunch.

I doubt that’s the only section, roll around underneath and stab stuff with a screwdriver :p

WOW that is bad! I agree with the others, do not drive that! That steering box is holding on by a thread. What does the remaining truck look like? If its worth saving, stay on the lookout for a donor frame.

I've fixed worse. As already mentioned though, there is most likely other areas that need attention as well.
We don't have rust like that up here thankfully! I guess it could be worse, but that blows my mind. My 57 out back, I bet I could clean the frame with a wire wheel and it would be ready to paint.

You are one lucky guy. I work at a metal fab shop. I have fixed more frames than I can count. I've literally seen and fixed worse than this.

ENGINE performance and maintenance.

Perhaps a moderator will move this thread to one or the other Suspension sections, specifically "Once the welder comes out the threads should go in here."

found a *ton* of rust in the frame, like rotten/rusted hollow.
The steering gearbox is about to separate from the frame, making the truck extremely dangerous/uncontrollable.

2) Is this a death-trap at this point?
Yes.

IF you have a decent selection of Treasure Yard vehicles, you could replace the frame.

This will depend mightily on the condition of the rest of the truck. If the frame is that bad, is the body any better?

To me, this is a parts-truck now. Buy a different truck, as stuff breaks or wears-out, scavenge what you can from this one.
