i have a 98 k1500 5.7l with 4l60e. when taking off from a stop after vehicle is warmed up. vehicle jerks and you can hear what sounds like gears grinding. when that happens truck acts as if it is not engaged in any gear then slams in gear and drives fine.
Transfer case not properly engaged?
Driveshaft splines ruined?

trans shifts perfect and haven’t really used 4wd as truck is lifted and removed cv axles.
No CV axles? Are the front wheel bearings coming apart?

Your a Ford tech? Did you decide to pull the cv axles? Are you sure that's a good idea?

I'm confused, is it possible to switch from 2L to 4H as the vehicle is in motion? I was under the impression that you'd need the vehicle stationary and on N.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Under 3 mph, "coasting" so there's no real load on the driveline.

2L? I didn't think that was possible without manual control over the axle disconnect.
