I feel the GMT800 is superior to the GMT400. I've been under the hood of my '400 far more times than that '800. The '800 hasn't left me waiting on a tow truck either. (Yet) They're very comfortable and run really smoothly. I'd love to find the GMT800 version of my '89 K1500. If I did, I'd snatch it right up. Have only seen one similar. It was a 4.8 and I hadn't quite gotten my monies worth out of my '89 at that point.

Here you go. 2006 and 2005 were considered the best GMT800 years and in Oregon, we have no rust. This has been up for a while because of his asking price but it is in great condition and very low mileage. I have to agree that the GMT800 series have the most comfortable seats, by far!

1st gen 2500 avalanche is cool and rare good luck I have no interest in a 800 truck or suv unless it is 4.3 6.0 (lq4-lq9) 8.1 or diesel I have no love for the 5.3 and the 4.8 is so small may as well just opt for the v6

It's gotta be a regular cab, short box 4x4 stick shift with a V8. ;) ...Preferably with crappy paint so I can have it sprayed two tone like my current truck.

None of the GMT800 engines had to deal with the AFM problems. That did not start till the NNBS GMT900 trucks. My 5.3 is rock solid and been well taken care of. Never owned a 4.8 but yes, is just a smaller version of a 5.3. The GMT800 3/4 ton series is when the 6.0 come along and I prefer that engine and even owned one at one time. Like the 5.3 engines, the 6.0 have a known problem of the exhaust manifold bolts breaking off at the head. Most of that is at the ends and there are clamp kits that can fix that till the manifolds are removed. The GMT800 big blocks do not have the exhaust manifold bolt head problems but the 8.1 engine does have the hard to get to foot long crank sensor that can break off in the block when trying to remove. That happens and you have to remove suspension and drop the ooil pan and take it out from the inside. The 4L85E transmission is strong and backed up by @NickTransmissions, here at this forum.

Drive to Idaho and pick up this jewel. Looks like a great price, too.

I will agree, our old 2001 Tahoe was an amazing rig. Fully loaded 4wd ordered with 4.10 gears. The interior is really nice in those years, gmt800 was the last to offer carpet on the door panels. I love our gmt900 but the 800 just felt more solid.

You weren't supposed to find one so soon! Nice looking truck. "..first owner.. ..special ordered it to run forever.. roll down windows, manual transmission etc" Yep, pretty much how my current truck is and how I'd want my next one to be. Although power windows are a breeze on those things and A/C is also a must. If I had the coin, guess I wouldn't feel shafted if I got it for $7,000

Not that bad of a drive from Michigan to Idaho. Also, is beautiful scenery, even if you ended up not buying but I myself, would never drive that far for a new to me truck.

I have my eye on a 2004 Avalanche 2500 right now on BAT, and is 70 miles away and I already went and met the seller and checked it out and road tested it. I think we could have made a deal right then but it is listed on BAT and he is locked in there.
