hydro boost for 88 c1500

I need to get a hydro boost setup for my 88 c1500. Ive been reading so much but just a bit confused on booster to get. The salvage yard near me has a 2003 tahoe with the the hydro booster that i can get. Im pretty well mechanically inclined but at 76 my memory is not as good anymore.. Id like to by the hydro booster from him just not sure if i would need the pedal to and if i would need to modify it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Fairly sure the newer-style booster needs modification to fit the GMT400 trucks.

Its always an easier, less adapting, if you use parts from the same generation of vehicle. Using the OE service manual the upgrade , any maintenance or repair would be contained in one book . Using same generation parts would be just like a factory option, rather than reinventing the wheel.

I did take one from an '86 truck and put it on a 92, the mounting plate was different, required drilling the proper holes in the firewall. What I don't remember is if I had to change the length of the brake pedal rod.
It can be made to fit/work, but won't be a bolt-in thing.

Same thing as the OP is suggesting, just the other direction. 1986 truck would be a square body, our OBS/400 trucks didn't start until 1988. Early production '88s were built in '87, but that's as "early" as they got. Best scenario would be to find a 400 with the HB unit, a 3500 should have one. Do you have a local or local ish wrecking yard to get parts from? You'll also need the correct HB configuration power steering pump for the conversion as it has extra lines in it for the additional hoses.
If you need pictures of what a factory HB setup on a 3500 looks like, let me know since I have one in the driveway....
