Had to make a short trip. Almost full tank of fuel, climbing the grades made no needle variation. Apply the brake, the needle twitches down a smidge. Release the brake it dips down about a quarter of an inch and returns. Then stays stable. Tomorrow should be a troubleshooting day. I've another gremlin as well, I'll try and get this one first.

Guys Mr. Murphy has been on overtime with me. Coupled with all the rain in my garage I haven't been able to accomplish much on the truck. Hopefully soon though.

Any progress on your troubleshooting? I have what sounds like the same issue. I'm curious what you found.

The TBI tanks have a baffle tray that sometimes can come loose as it's just held to the tank floor with push nuts onto studs, sometimes rust they away.

If it's a baffle tray tank I'd suspect the baffle may be loose.

On either style setup.. gas gauge fluctuating on braking could be a dash ground issue.

I sure hope that's not the case. I cannot find a new Fuel Tank for the 95 Tahoe 4 door. All the sites I've checked only list a tank for the 2 door.

Clean your grounds at the tank, the rear taillights, and under the dash.

I'll definitely be checking that first, since I have other issues that may be ground related.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of keeping the fuel filter clean. Change the fuel filter every 15k and the fuel pump will outlast the rest of the truck.

When the OBS trucks were newer, and a GMT400 came into the dealership with a plugged or partialy plugge fuel filter, they would recommend to replace the pump. If the customer decided not to replace the pump, the service manager would include the recommendation with the prediction that the fuel pump is likely to fail within the year on the workorder/final bill--in writing. That way the customer couldn't come back and claim the dealer "screwed up the fuel pump" when replacing the filter.

I have a Dephi HP10001 on my 96 K1500, and 02 G1500, each have 140k + on the pumps. My 96 G1500 has a cheap pump purchased at Oreillys in it and has about 150k on it. My 97 k1500 has about 178k and it still has the original fuel pump.

In all cases I change the fuel filter Often & Frequently--I think that's the secret to any fuel electric fuel pump regardless of how much it cost.

I just wanna know how I managed to energize the tail/brake light ground wire when changing the vacum booster on my 96. When I hit the brakes the ground beomes hot and I blow the fuse with a hard short. So I disconnected it and taped it off three years ago. I have not noticed any ill effects......

I agree with this, but damn you are racking up some miles! That’s about 25,000 miles a year.
