I have a 1996 GMC Sierra K1500. I would like to purchase a handheld scanner for a reasonable price that is able to identify any errors that pop up on my instrument panel. I have no experience with the scanners. I am looking for one that is easy to read and offers codes on my truck.

The cheapest route is an ELM32 OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and an app for your phone. I'm partial to the "Torque" app, they have a free and paid version. The free one will do just about everything you need. There's a multitude of other apps as well.

Amazon has lots of cheap ELM32 adapters, any of them will work.

Thank you. Went with the BlueDriver Pro Scan Tool with Bluetooth. Works great!
