Yup fort McMurray weather has been terrible! So much rain and wind! And 4000 extra workers to rebuild the oil refinery just struggling in the weather conditions. Tight deadlines but we are 80% complete. I think the plant makes about 30 million a day so a 30 day shut down is a big rush to get back into production.

Yup..... shutdown season is a unique beast to be a part of. The absolute insane amount of money that is spent will spin most people's heads like Linda Blair!!!
I think we both know guys who work 4-6 months a year working "the circuit" and take the rest of the year to do whatever including travel the world.

And he's not even in Winterpeg, Manisnowba.....
Ya, but where he is right now, up in Fort McMurray is a lot farther north than Winterpeg!
Funny you called it that, being a southern lass!! Lol
This has been a whacky spring around here.
August is the only month I've never seen snow.
A few degrees colder we would have had snow here too.
And he's not joking about the wind. It's been absolutely relentless the last few weeks.

It was breezy here yesterday, only thing that made it tolerable to be outside. Already getting into the high 90s....
I've read some of y'all Canucks talking about Winnipeg, how it's always cold. I guess if you're used to it, and know how to dress and prepare for it....
Me being up there, would be like y'all being in Houston, Texas in July and August. Not happening!! I used to work with a woman from Buffalo, New York, and she said they had 3 seasons: July, August and winter. And I've read Kathy *****'s books about Montreal and Quebec winter weather...she describes it so well, ya get chilly reading the book.

When it’s -40 and your eye balls start stinging that’s when the boys and men become obvious. When the going gets tough the ones who want it the most succeed.

Yes good point, this shut down I hired a guy as a subcontractor safety advisor to cover my field work and he made $30,000 in 24 days. He’s an older gentleman and he does 2-3 shut downs a year and enjoys semi-retirement. He works about 3-4 months a year and makes $100,000 and has a nice vacation lifestyle as he has no car payments and his house is almost paid off.

I 110% agree, this was my first winter working as a scaffolder and I've learned alot about working out in the cold.

Lol..... welcome to the dark side of the trades!!!
I'm a carpenter by trade, scaffolder by greed and now safety by accident!

I was on the Agrium project in Saskatoon a few years back, and down in Swift for a power plant. Ya.... Saskatchewan winters suck bad!!!!

Let me guess, your working at a potash plant? Lol
