Should I get a bigger battery?

It seems the Optima batteries are no longer a favorite anymore. They seem to have a high failure rate now. Guess they don't make them like they used to.

Go with the best you can afford from a chain store with a good warranty. Can't remember what the number is odd hand, but there is one that has both side and top posts for these trucks.

Look into doing the "big 3" upgrade as well. The wiring in these trucks was definitely not meant to be running all the new modern gadgets available.

I would say the tipping point of getting a new battery would be if your lights start dimming while at a stop light and you can watch the voltage gauge do the funky chicken! Lol

But if I was you, I'd start at the "big 3" and see if your current (no pun intended) battery keeps up.

A capacitor would help with your stereo as well for when the bass gets bumping.
I noticed lately that I only get the funky chicken from the voltage gauge when I use my turn signal. Thanks for letting me know about big 3, I’d never heard of that

I really like the thought of the optima batteries with both top and side posts plus I’ve heard them last 10 years. Please give me your thoughts and suggestions thank you
I spent 28 years in the Air Force, and that entire time we used Optima batteries in all our equipment. They're fantastic if you don't have a parasitic draw and need to leave equipment sitting for a year at a time.

The downside is that if you ever drain the battery, they're bricks. They do not recover. Ever. Get Whamalart's 1000CA battery, flatten the end of your battery tray to fit it, and rock on.

All good.
It's when you upgrade some of the cables in the electrical system.
Can start out with the "big 3" and go up from there, to I believe 6 different ones.

The dual terminal battery # is 34/78. #78 is the standard size for our trucks; I run this with at least 800 CCA (cold cranking amps) in my trucks.
As far as alternator alternatives, the pickups came with a 100/105 amp unit unless ordered specifically different. The Burbs got a 145 amp unit, which fits in the standard Vortec bracket, BUT requires a larger belt. The SUVs got a bigger one because of the rear heater and AC power demands.

that is interesting to me when did one of ours not to long ago we went from a 100 or 105 do not know what one to a 140 or 145 did not have to change the belt do not know if it is because it is a 6.5 or what but stock belt works just fine did have to order a plug adapter though
