Hey pretty new to this forum but I have owned a 88 GMC 1500 for 7 years now it was my daily until the engine has recently blown. (330,000 KM) It has since been put in the garage to be worked on as it needs a new engine and some body work.

I have been trying to decide for the last month to either swap in a 6L LS with a new cam or Rebuild a SBC 350. Taking price out of the equation what is a better option. (Buying a crate engine is not an option)

I want this to be my street cruiser so to speak and drive it only in the summer mainly for fun but it may turn back into a summer daily exclusively as they put salt on the roads during the winter where I live. I'll use a beater in the winter.

You will get a LOT of different answers, so I'll start! Lol
6.0 all day.
Building a small block, even back to just stock, and honestly who does that, will probably cost more than the average LS swap.
And getting even a mild built 350 to run right is going to be a hassle.

Get a pull out motor, trans (assuming you have a 700r4) and wiring harness and ECM.
Some new mounts, a few adapters, splice some wires, and figure out exhaust and get running with as much power as the stock 350 with a Whipple has.

And then one day, if you decide to slap a cam, turbo etc on it, it's much easier to tune and get going again.

Have you ever done an engine swap including buying aftermarket engine mounting brackets? Are you good with swapping wire harnesses, ECU, connecting electronics to the trans? You'll be upgrading the fuel pump, exhaust mods, you'll need the whole engine accessory drive system.

OTOH, have you ever rebuilt an engine? The time and money needed for machine work alone makes grown men cry. Some engine parts have been in short supply for years due to Corporate America's dependence on Communist Chinese supply chains. And then there's the horrific parts-price increases due to Wuhan Flu and Bidenomics.
