It's really interesting seeing how much taller the bonnet is on the newer one, and the windscreen is shorter because of it. It must make it harder to see out in front of the vehicle especially when in traffic etc? Does it need this to clear the engine or something?
Over time, it seems everything gets bigger and fatter (including Americans...

Trio probably nailed it, and noticeable on some vehicles more than others. But I think since these trucks can also come with a Duramax, they need the space, along with the frame being taller than a half ton truck. Mine has the 6.6 gas engine, so there's a lot of room under the hood.
You get use to the high hood after a while.

That's an HD truck too and they're bigger than their half ton brothers. But even those are taller than my 1 ton crew cab....this is a GMC but the Chevys are the same height.

Here's the first group of pictures from Lone Star Roundup; these are at the motel and coming in on Saturday morning. You could have stayed on that corner with a camcorder or even a phone and got some great video of the rods coming in. Lots of vintage trucks, and I saw some of the same 400s in the vendor parking that were there last year.

Part two....
The '55 Crown Victoria is Robin Vaughan's car, and the white(with silver roof) '54 Ford coupe behind it is her husband Jimmie's. He and his band played the show on Saturday. Their cars got a trophy from one of the many clubs that attended the show; they make a club pick.

Part three....
This truck is a '50 Chevy 3600(3/4 ton) and belongs to a vendor at the show. The truck was purchased in North Dakota, shipped to England (where it's owner lived then and is from). Then she moved to central Texas, and brought "Betsy" to Texas as well. She said the truck tows that trailer (caravan) very well; not sure what running gear Betsy has(it was the end of the show and she was getting ready to leave).
Some of these other cars are ones we saw on the way home today, near Austin.

Part four....
That black coupe has an early Chrysler hemi in it, and it was going pretty good! I heard the exhaust over the blown out mufflers on my truck, so that's saying something....
The wagon is an AMC Rambler from the mid 60s, I think....
