Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

One thing that I didn't mention. The shop that did the work said that they normally just tighten them down "until they squish a bit". I made sure that they were torqued to 55 ft/lbs with blue locktight, just like the manufacturer recommend. That could play a roll in ride quality too.

Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

Correct. I found the same. I deliberately hit a few pot holes, no shortage of them here, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it felt.

Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

It was a little more involved than I first thought, but the truck is solid once more. I knew that at least a couple of mounts were bad, but when we got it into the shop and looked, three cab mounts were bad, two were worse than I thought, and both core support mounts were bad. One quite bad. The...

Thermostatic valves for the TBI Intake

A couple summers ago I was making a dump run and an OPP going the other way pulled a u-turn and came flying up behind the line of traffic I was in and when we all pulled to the shoulder, he came right up behind me and got out. He didn't even ask for my ID, he just started going over my truck. He...

#1 cylinder damage from exhaust valve question

I can't see any way that the valve is not bent. If the head is still off, you can tip that port up and pour some alcohol in it. Even if the valve is just bent a little and you can't see it, the alcohol will run out around the valve if it's not seated.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

It is. The first owner worked at a rustproofing shop and the whole truck is solid. Not sure why the left rear cab mount rusted, but my new mounts will be here today and it will hopefully go in next week and have the cab mount(s) fixed. The shop plasma cuts a plate for the top and welds it on...

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

I looked around here for OEM, but they were about $350 as compared to $129. for the Energy Suspension ones. My truck makes about 3 trips to the lumber yard and a couple to the dump each year. The truck is almost 35 years old and it's just turned 190,00 kilometers,(118,000 miles), so I'm not...

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

LOL Found them too. I'm going to use them with my polly mounts.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

Looks like these are called "Body insulators" and were used on the newer trucks. They're still going on mine though. Can't hurt anything. https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/gm-body-insulator-15053229

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

They could have been used in the 2000s. I was there until '09.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

Now that I think about it, it's possible that these, not only helped against squeaks, they might have been used to hold the bolts in place before assembly. At first, we had operators in the marriage station who would load a bolt and washer into the gun and drive them into place. Later, it became...

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

If you read my post, I said that they were installed in the factory and I remember them being installed, I'm assuming the year because that's when I worked right beside cab drop.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

Yes. I worked in the truck plant from 83 - 2009 and was beside the marriage station from 86-2006, so I'm assuming that they were used somewhere in that time frame.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

I found these while looking through my bins. They were factory installed on GM pickups, but I don't remember what years. I'm going to use them with my new mounts, just because I have them.

I got lucky? 34 year old Canadian Cab Mount Bolts

I haven't bought new ones yet. I would really like to go with stock, but an aftermarket set is a LOT cheaper. I know the ride will be harsher, but I'm looking at a set of Energy Suspension ones on Amazon for $131.68.

I got lucky? 34 year old Canadian Cab Mount Bolts

I'm getting ready to do the cab mount repair on my 90 standard cab and after 34 Canadian winters of salt, there was only one bolt that I could remove with an extractor socket. The rest were way too rusted to get anything on. I cleaned off what was left of the head, held a nut against them and...

    Finally fixed my off-idle stumble!

I've been chasing an off-idle hesitation and poor light throttle performance for a few years now. When I first started trying to sort it out, I did all the regular tune up stuff, including a new EGR valve. After reading a couple of posts on here, I pulled the EGR and had a good look at it. The...

BIZARRE end to the hunting/stumbling idle issue on my ‘95.

I have the same slight off-idle stumble. I did change the EGR a couple of years back, and I just got the new one from the parts store, but when I think back, one had the restriction in the vacuum connection and one didn't. What would be correct for my 1990 C1500 305?

New Y-pipe and cat for the old girl

That hole in the Y-pipe just took a plug. It probably fits many applications. My truck does have the O2 in the drivers manifold. That's where the Y-pipe blew out and I think it was throwing the sensor off.

New Y-pipe and cat for the old girl

My 1990 C1500 got really loud, fairly quickly, and it was running like crap. Stalling and stumbling. The Y-pipe was blown out right by the O2 sensor and the Cat, the 33 year old one, was pooched. Living in Ontario, Canada, I wasn't looking forward to the job, but I bought a stud puller, and to...

Drivers power window quit on my '90 standard cab. Where to start?

That poor truck sits in the laneway and only gets used a handful of times a year. It just turned 190,000K, about 120,000 miles and it's still in great shape for being 33 years old. I just picked up a load of drywall for my new garage and it paid for itself once more. Good old Chevy long-box...

Drivers power window quit on my '90 standard cab. Where to start?

Well, that was more work than I bargained for. it turned out to be the window motor itself. I got it changed out with a new one, $49.99, and it works great. The old one was corroded inside and it looks like moisture had gotten in. The factory motor only had three screws and I don't think it was...

TBI small block intake gasket replacement (PIC HEAVY)

I'm just getting ready to tackle the intake gaskets on my 90 Silverado with the same problem. I logged in to get some tips on doing it, but didn't expect such a detailed tutorial. Thanks!

Drivers power window quit on my '90 standard cab. Where to start?

My power window decided to quit working. Is there a way to test the motor by running 12 volts to it and see if that's the problem? I would imagine that if it's the wire, it will be broke right at the door, where it gets bent the most. That looks like quite the job to get at. Any tips would be...
