Can you identify this ground wire?

I'm wondering:

1. What does this ground wire do?
2. Where/what it's supposed to be grounded to?

It originates on the firewall under the heater hose. The blue tape is mine; to remember to ask you guys before I drove it.

One goes to frame and the other runs up that tube/wire management thing and bolts to passenger side head.

Yes, there is a similar wire that is currently connected to the frame.

So this one gets attached to the back of the cylinder head right where that bracket is mounted (which I remember being a pain in the ass to get on/off). Got it. Thanks!

Yeah, not in great shape; I will replace.

One note—My routing seems to be different than yours, and also what's online. Both of my straps originate from the stud on the firewall, while your 'cylinder head strap' seems to originate from the frame.

Is your's the proper routing?

Mines a 96 Vortec, is yours a TBI? They might be different.

Yep, 5.7 TBI on a '92

Factory routing on the TBI era trucks - both straps attach at same stud on the firewall, near the heater core hoses. One goes to rear of passenger side head, other goes to passenger frame rail.
