I am getting a lot of side-to-side play in my floor shifter after having the carpeting replaced. Seems they did not know to pull the handle off first and thought they had to take the entire shifter off. No one took photos before and parts were not tracked.

I have looked at some photos on the Internet and it looks like there is some kind of spring on the passenger side of the shifter just above the cotter pin?

I cannot find any good photos of the area around the cotter pin. Does anyone know how the floor shifter is held tightly in place so it does not move side-to-side? Part numbers and/or pics would be very helpful if you have them.

You've seen the threads about the service manuals right, it's in there, transmission and transfer case.

@df2x4 do you have any 1996 transfer case manuals? Trying to view the components of the floor-mounted shifter and I think it might be located in this document: GMPT/96-TURM

I reviewed the 1995 TURM but it does not depict a breakdown of the floor-mounted shifter (mentioned in three places in that document).

Please review the attachment. That is a page from the 1996 GMC K1500 service manual. I am looking for information on #21 and #45. I believe all eight bolts that hold the rear bumper to the frame are the same (#45). I need to understand exactly what size that bolt is before I will be able to locate the other part.

Thank you. That is a ton of information and some of it is buried!

The bolts are the same. Looks like mine are M12 x 1.75 x 30. May be the same for you .....that other part is trickier....I used nuts
