88 HM-290 swap to later style 96-99 NV3500?

well maybe down the line i will go for a nv4500 but i think for right now the 3500 is fine for me, i rather would have and internal centric salve cylinder setup... personally i think they feel better. but does anyone know if the spline count on the transfer case will be the same as a later style...
