    I actually list that as an option, my point is if he wants an easy swap and have it run correctly without tuning/buying anything swap the oil burning short block for the Vortec one but keep everything else from the old motor.

    Easiest way to do this just swap short blocks but use the TBI heads, intake, FP, WP and accessories. The roller cam is probably even worth a few HP.     305 Vortec makes a little less tq than a TBI 350 but a little more HP so yeah if you have some Vortec 305 heads and have a roller block you can upgrade then go for it.

    It might not be the original engine in that 77 and i believe roller cams were 88. Check the casting #s to find out.

    My last oil change was with the usual Wix filter that was made in USA I believe in Illinois. They also made the Bosch one, I think exactly the same as Wix/Napa Gold and I bought quite a few on Amazon, so look for that filter too while they are still out there.

    Shorties help top end which matters more in Vortecs than TBI, but if you are doing the whole exhaust anyway might as well go for it.

    If you are going old school HEI/Carb just get an intake manifold from Edelbrock/Weiand/87-88 Monte SS and put a Holley 4 barrel on it.

    A relative of mine had two good 305 TPI engines I could have had dirt cheap a few years ago, i did not get them because you know 305s but i wish I had as @L31MaxExpress said good 350's disappearing fast, and 305s/334s can be good runners for daily driven trucks.

    Do a search here for the UMP cap at RockAuto or look at the reviews at Summittracing, the Summitt cap is the same as the UMP one.

    Did you change your rotor? That was my problem with that code. Also I have had bad Delphi/Delco parts but Standard seems to be good, could just be dumb luck though.

    Ya sure but I believe he is talking stock heads not Mexican Vortecs so no real difference. I still think his best bet buy new heads either Jegs Vortecs which are less $ than the GM Mexican ones, or Trick Flow 87-95 heads and no worries about changing intakes/water pump but obviously cost more...

    906 and 062 are the same head anyway so no problem there, I think the difference in casting #s is two different plants.

    You need the GM hold down to adjust it, and the code doesn't pop up unless it is +-13 I believe. My UMP ran better with a Standard cap, though I didn't have their better cap.

    You can buy a ZZ short block but it is like 4k.

    I think he just needs the stock adjustable hold down, that UMP one comes with a non adjustable clamp.
