so I’m somewhat new to this and feel like I’m over thinking this but. I’ve been searching for a rear axle to swap in place of mine. I currently have a gt4 in my truck and everyone wants 500$ or more for a used one. I just found a g80 for 200$ my question is, can I swap my gt4 with this g80? Both are 6 lug both are 3.73.

A gt4 can also be a G80 and the first is your gear ratio and the second is your diff type. So your G80 that your looking to buy is a GT4/G80. Post the years and vehicles for both and that will help people tell you more about them. Hoping you are successful with your swap and keep this old steel on the road.

1995 Silverado with gt4. The one the g80 is coming out of is a 1990 suburban. I’m trying to put the suburban axle in the truck.
I should have said that in the first post. from the pictures everything looks the same. But I am 2 hours away from the suburban and want to know if it will even work in my truck.

G80 is NOT a gear ratio, it's GM's code for a traction control in the differential, commonly called gov-loc or positraction or gov-bomb. The three characters before the G80 code on the SPID label are the actual gear ratio of the vehicle, GU4=3:08, GU6=3:42, GT4=3:73, GT5=4:10. G80 can be had with any of the gear ratio's

But would a 90 model suburban work in a 95 Silverado?
