Probably a dumb ? and some of you may think I’m stupid for this but that’s ok. Changing out the injectors on my 96 454. Are the brown cap looking things supposed to come off before puttting into the engine. The spray nozzles are exposed and they won’t come off just trying to with my fingers. I’m assuming they remain since the spray holes are exposed. Pic below

Correct; leave those caps on. Depending on brand and design, injectors can come with a cap that totally encloses the tip to prevent debris from getting in during shipping, but that will be an obvious closed-end cap, like these clear ones on some Bosch injectors I bought years ago. Back in early 2011, these were the injectors Five-O Motorsports were marketing as 7.4 replacements; nothing like what they are selling today.

Curious what brand, model, and source your injectors are and why you chose them?

Ok thanks. Got mine from precision injectors. Had read several post that they were a good source. Also Five-0. Just chose precision. All the reviews I saw were good. Here’s hoping.

Precision claims those to be new, genuine "not counterfeit" Bosch injectors. Essentially you should have the same injectors I bought from Five-O, 13 years ago - though the bodies on mine were black, not natural aluminum, and the plastic tips were yellow, not brown. I'm sure a lot can change in a product over the 13 years.

However.. did yours not come with additional caps over the tips to protect them in the packaging, during shipping?

Those caps hold the lower o ring in place. Bosch yellows ought to be 19# at 39psi or so. Same flow as what I yanked from a Lincoln Towncar at the boneyard. Five O will sell you the same injector for a 5.0 Ford as a 7.4 Vortec. Five O now sells black injectors I believe.

I didn’t see anywhere they claimed to be new. Just not counterfeit. Website states they are fully serviced and tested but never new. No additional caps came. They were sealed in a bag, wrapped with some foam padding inside the box. They will either work fine or they won’t. Don’t appear to be damaged. If they don’t work I guess we will see if their customer service/ exchange or refund policy is any good. Worse case I get screwed out of the money I paid which will suck but take it as a lesson learned and move on if that’s the case.

Supposedly they are same flow rate as stock just Bosch design. I don’t need the higher flow rate or added power for my purposes. Just trying to eliminate the fuel leakage up top and get the car running and driving

My mistake - I overlooked that they aren't new, but "Genuine Bosch 4 Hole Fuel Injectors not counterfeits replicas! Fully serviced and tested to perform as they would new. Includes new o-rings, filters, spacers, and pintle caps installed on fuel injectors."

The replacement caps explains the color difference.
