Need to know what parts are interchangeable from 88 motor to 97 Vortec. I know I need a Vortec intake. But will the following interchange?
Flex plate
Harmonic balancer
Water pump and accessories
Exhaust manifolds
Distributor
Flexplate - Yes
Harmonic balancer - No, the Vortec balancer is shorter because it has the reluctor wheel behind it.
Water pump - No, the TBIs had the bypass circuit in the block, the Vortec has it in the water pump. You can drill the holes in the block and heads and run a TBI pump, but you'll be on your own there. I haven't done it.
Exhaust manifolds - Yes? I'm not sure about the EGR routing.
Distributor - No, they're different.
