So this problem just randomly started, I have a 1994 c1500 base model. My brake lights don't work when my headlights are off, but my brake lights stay on when my headlights are on. All my blinkers and other light functions work, just my brake lights. For a little further explanation, you know how at night when you have your headlights on, ur taillights stay on, and when u brake they brighten? Well mine stay bright with headlights on and don't work at all with headlights off. 3rd brake light works fine. They used to work fine, then they started to flicker a little and now they don't work at all. Also I have aftermarket brake lights, just lookup American flag brake lights for Chevy and they'll have a blue flag in them. My guess has been that there might be a bad wire somewhere or the brake light module on the brake pedal has gone bad. PLZ HELP!!

Do still have the original? If so plug it in and see if the problem goes away. We're your aftermarket plug and play?
The headlights on the rear running light , red , lower is just a marker light. The brake and turn are upper bulb and brighter. The turn signal and brake being same circuit/ bulb filament. The center high brake light circuit gets power before rear brake lights, that's why it's not affected.

Check your grounds ,in front buy the headlights and should be one in the harness at the rear of the truck where the harness plugs together for the tail/brake lights and the license plate lights seams like loosing a ground,

Don't have original and yes, the aftermarket lights are plug and play, traded for this truck a few months ago and this problem just started about a week ago and good to know!

These are the taillights I have, you can see how it's not a bulb but it plugs into the flag

I'd check the ground wire(s) connection for rear harness. Should be inside rear frame, driver's side.

Does the truck have a trailer light receptacle/socket? That's another possible rot spot.

Check the STOP or the Brake fuse

Check your grounds. Do nothing else until you've verified they're tight and clean. Make sure your ground wires aren't broken.

It does have a trailer harness on it but I'll check grounds first!
