Im swapping a 1993 k1500 suburban transmission and transfer case into a 1994 k1500 sierra, transmission and transfer case are the same in both? Gearing is only important in the rear axle and front diff? Any info is appreciated, thank you.

WHICH TRANSMISSION? Manual? Automatic? Which model of transmission?

If both transfer cases are floor-shift, they're interchangeable. If both are dash-switch, they're probably interchangeable.

Well i didnt say anything about changing from an auto to manual or vise versa right… I did forget to mention they are all auto but regardless its implied. Its a 1993 k1500 suburban transfer case and tranny going into my 1994 k1500 pickup………??? And the didnt make dash shift in 1993 or 1994 now did they…

I understand that. But they only put one type of transmission in 1993 and 1994 chevy and gmc pick ups and suburbans. The 4l60e. And they only came with floor shifts for the 4x4 aspect.. I did forget to mention they are autos i admit, but if he didnt know the other things already, what was the point in even responding to my post, also the rest of what he said was very unnecessary and a bit offensive. Especially considering my name says newbie next to it and this is my first forum ever…. But thank you to all.

Got it under control

I'm glad you got it worked out. @Schurkey was just trying to get the specifics so he didn't give you wrong information. That said, there's still a lot of variabilities in regards to transmissions. For example there's 4l60e, 4l80e, 700r4, NV4500, NV3500, etc... 1994 came with 4 transmission options: 4l60e, 4l80e, nv3500, and nv4500. It helps to be descriptive, for example I personally don't know what year they switched from 700r4 to 4l60e.

Biggest difference for transfer cases: "light duty" automatic transmissions (4l60e) used a 27 spline input shaft on the transfer case, "heavy duty" autos (4l80e) and all manuals use a 32 spline.

There's 3 different transfer cases I know of for these trucks: NP241 - manual floor shift; NP243 - push button 4x4; NP246 - push button 4x4 PLUS automatic 4wd

As long as the spline count is correct any of them should bolt up. However, the electronics are not compatible.
