After I loosened up the CAT/Y Pipe assembly I had a newly formed exhaust leak once I tightened everything back up. I found that part of the gasket down stream of the cat as it mates to the mid pipe had broken apart when I loosened things up. I didn't like the exhaust leak (sound and smell) so I thought I would toss a new gasket in until I figure out what route I am going to take to replace the Y pipe.
I installed a new gasket last night....and it sorta worked. I was able to get the new gasket in but there was still a small leak on start up. So I went to tighten the center nut a bit more and apparently I applied to many foot pounds because I snapped the dang stud
I snugged the remaining two studs down as much has I thought I could and that is where she sits now. Still has a leak but it is less than before so for now that is a win.
On a positive note, the leak is down stream of the CAT that has the CEL. With the leak the CEL has gone away! Guessing that the leak has changed the reading of the downstream O2 sensor and brought it back into range.
Right now I am not super stoked with any of the aftermarket options I am seeing for the Y Pipe / CAT assembly. The jegs unit looks decent but the pipes are not stainless and they can't tell me what diameter each tube is. Based on
@Salty K1500 recommending going to a local shop I am thinking of going that route. I found a shop closer to me that says they will do a custom setup. Tim's Custom Exhaust. I need to call them and see what they quote.
