You didn't say how many miles on the engine but one piston having stuck rings is uncommon but not out of the question. You may want to inspect the cylinder condition with a camera though the spark plug hole. If the bore is gouged rebuild is probably not an option.
I tend to prefer rebuilding...
That looks great. I am also installing Altman latches on my 49/50. It is pretty daunting when you lay out the cuts into the door but it does not appear to create a problem.
Gotta test the fuel pressure, most local auto parts stores loan fuel pressure testers. If the fuel pressure is too low the injectors will not deliver fuel.
Is it possible that during the swap that you covered the fuel lines with something that has now become lodged in one of the lines?
Confirm that you actually have spark and fuel. If you do then timing of the spark is the most likely cause. If the plug wires were previously offset to compensate for the distributor being out of position you could easily be farther off on timing than moving it both directions would solve.
I can not see how the fuel lines would get hot, the engine is not running to produce heat and pumping fuel through the lines would cause them to cool, not heat. A little fuel out of the valve is not a good indication of fuel pressure or even volume delivered. Assuming that the fuel system...
When you say no fire does that mean that it cranks but does not start?
Check for spark at the #1 plug, a timing light or what ever you have handy to confirm that the plug is being fired.
Pull the plugs and check for fuel. If you have cranked with a no start condition they should be wet with...
It is not likely that the two problems are related but never say never.
Get a second gauge reading on the oil pressure. If it is reading correctly you have something worn enough that oil is being "leaked" reducing the pressure. Most likely rod bearings but there are a number of other...
If it cranks slow after it stalls but okay after a little while there may be something increasing the resistance to rotation. Things that change over time would include pressure bleeding off somewhere in the engine or transmission. Is it possible that the stall is due to flooding and some of...
When you say won't start do you mean won't fire and run or will not crank? Your comment regarding the battery leads me to suspect that it doesn't crank but that's a whole different diagnosis pathway than the idle/stall problem typically associated with not starting after a stall.
Is the stiff pedal from the up position or only after being depressed some amount?
If stiff from the up position the slave is locked up preventing the piston from moving.
Monitor the fuel pressure to see if it drops before the engine stops. You should be able to get a fuel pressure tester from your local parts store for free on their tool loaner program.
You mention the fuel pump is fairly new but did you also change the fuel filter?
After it dies how long do you need to wait to be able to repeat the start/stop process?
If it does start does it run a high speed and only stop at idle or stop regardless of throttle position?
Can the TPS be swapped between the 2? The truck it came from was a '91 but no way of knowing if it the original or if the change over happended during the '91 MY.
