If your truck was my truck, I'd put a used engine in it like I did with my current truck.
I've come across so many stories where fellas rebuild engines or have them rebuilt only for that engine to fail in short order. This is of course after spending thousands.
Hmm. Well, if Jerry would like to tackle that project I'd be interested in the end result. I've got a bunch of those head units on my shelf. Rock Auto shows some of the same options between actuator doors, but also has different options available between '89 and '94...
I'm left wondering how direct injection is a marvel for anything other than WOT. I'll keep driving my old crap, loving it more than I thought possible.
Hmm, I've seen that a few times on the freeway and thought, "Wow, for a modern car that's pretty bad. My PoS doesn't throw black smoke outta the tail pipe.."
The manual I've got for '88 shows the actuators running on 8V. The later trucks ('92+) ran on 5V, IIRC:
So I don't think changing your actuators will make a difference, as the head unit will be checking the reference voltage signal.
You can swap a later head unit into an older truck. It might work for a little while, but there's a difference between the voltages sent to the stepper motors. Once the head unit figures that out, it'll start flashing at you.
While it's nice to have the manual control over the recirc door...
I've got a 305 TBI in my Firebird, the same turd they put in the trucks, just with a factory roller cam. It was a reliable turd that couldn't get out of it's own way or smoke a tire on dry concrete. Early 20's me threw cylinder heads at it, Performer TBI intake, 3.23's + limited slip and an...
The face plate of that CD player is recessed at the borders, looks like it is designed to fit where the tape deck goes. That being said, I'd rather listen to tapes. All of the early CD players I've had the misfortune to experience always skipped. Better than both of those is an auxiliary...
You need to get a scan tool (Snap-On MT2500 is a good choice) and see what it tells you. The gauges & tachs on these aren't known for accuracy. I'd be highly interested in what the IAC counts are. If they're over 0, check the scanner to see what the RPM is. Don't be surprised if what the...
Plenty!
Preamp: Crown Straight Line One or Parasound P5 (If you'd like a remote and XLR inputs/outputs)
Amps: Crown PS 200's or 400's. If you like it loud, you'll want two of either so you can bridge them.
Speaker: Klipsch Cornwall I's. / UREI 811C's.
Subs: N/A. The x.2 aspect will come...
Save your money and invest in a dedicated 2.2 system for listening, if you're into music. You'll see at least 3x the gains for every dollar you put there vs a car. I consider myself to be a huge audiophile, by my truck's system is stock other than the Infinity plate speakers, '94 CDM swap and...
