Let me tell ya'll a story.... it's a good one. How it cost me $135 to obtain 6 studs that retain the coil / engine beautification covers to an LS1/LS6. Upon researching what held the coil covers to the engine, I found the need for 6 studs. Which unfortunately were discontinued by GM. That...

Trying to stay ahead of the LS engines this time, with pre-cleaned and detailed tin wear! Two sets of Gen 3 valve covers, one set of Gen 4 valve covers. Gen 3 sets received GM NOS Corvette / GTO filler necks and Caps. Gen 4 set received GM ZL1 filler with ZO6 sump cap. Wrinkle finish is the...

Revisiting this conversation, these are 2012 5.3 rockers, this bearing end cap is the same as the earlier pieces, which can and will fall out and spill the needles.

Prime example of why its imperative to chase the head bolt holes and blow them out with compressed air when replacing heads / gaskets / head bolts on an LS. Exhibit A.) Someone replaced just the passenger side head, ram rodded the head bolts into coolant filled holes. Boom! Cracked liner on #4...

Haha! I got so tired of having to track this bolt or that part down, so I just started buying every cheap LS I can get my hands on for parts.

Today's deal of the day, via Facebook Marketplace: A running LC9 5.3 for $240, even came with the LS3 style coils. Plan is to rob the 799 heads for the 6.0 I'm going to build with a mild cam for the 03 GMC. Coils are being used on the LS6.

Looking at the rocker arm, from the fulcrum out, you can see the needle bearing ends, while looking in towards the fulcrum at the rocker body, you'll see a cap.

From my research, something changed in 2005. But I also frequently use 07-13 243/799 truck heads and always change the bearings out. I will say, the non-captured needle bearings are the same as 97-04 rocker assemblies.

In respect to the rectangle port, offset intake rockers, or just late model cathedral port? I've seen and experienced 07+ cathedral port bearing failures. Never on a 07+ rectangle port head.

Went ahead and did the Comp rocker arm trunnion upgrade today. Once you've had a stock rocker fail, by dumping it's needle bearings out, locking the rocker down and ventilating a piston via force, the trunnion kit is an always-do upgrade.

I've had really good success with as-cast 243/799 heads and compression. Alot of what I've seen, beyond a simple blend, porting changes the port velocity in a bad way and you may gain 10-15hp, at that point it isn't worth the cash in my opinion.

The LS6 heads were sent to the machine shop, hot tanked and checked. Received them, finished hand cleaning, cleaned the valves, new valve seals, PAC 1219 .625" lift springs installed, painted with VHT fresh cast aluminum paint, threads chased. Still waiting on the shortblock, was supposed...
