RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

LOL I'm sorry. It did not make a noise. Upon re-reading that, I can see how that was misleading. My bad. However, my Dad and I just went down to the RCSB with a toolbox, a set of jumper cables, a timing light, and a little jumper wire for the fuel pump relay (just in case). Jumped the...

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

Boy... this truck just isn't meant to be on the road. I got both of our daily drivers fixed, so I took Mr. RCSB out for a drive. Started up no problem, ran well (albeit the alignment problem is still making it hard to control at higher speeds. I went around a few blocks, Hell, I even went...

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

Well, the RCSB goes on the back burner, yet again. My Wife's Jeep left her stranded in a shady part of town. THAT night went well, let me tell you. Long story short, I ended up waiting with her, in a dark parking lot (both of us armed) at 10 o'clock at night, for a fcking tow truck to show...

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

Ahh, ya know, that's an interesting point. Last summer, I was finding pre-Vortec GMT400's in the yard like crazy. It was super easy to find parts (and more importantly, restore my interior to 99% complete and, except for ONE part, color matching). Fast forward to THIS summer. I've been to...

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

Yeah it did! Oh, and BTW, I still never got the front end professionally aligned, after correcting the steering problem. The left front tire is squealing and it has to be causing drag. I'm wondering if that's mimicking some loss of power?

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

I may be slightly over estimating the RPM at which it lost all power. I will fill the tank and perform the same test drive. Regardless, it seems I'm finally seeing the light at the end of this long, frustrating, expensive, and time consuming tunnel.

RE: An update to my V6 to V8 swap.

Ok I guess it's about time I updated everyone as to what's been going on. For those of you that would like a refresher (or are not up to speed on my last two epic failures, lol....), I have an 88 (89?) RCSB that started life as a 5-speed V6. I swapped a 94 5.7L into it and tried to show off...

First real test drive today, after V8 swap.

LOL!!!!! Ok I get your point. Too bad it's been POURING rain the past few days or I'd be paying more attention to Mr. RCSB

Well, yes. That was because at the time, I didn't know what "angle-plug" meant. A quick lying, spying google search would have helped immensely at that time. #stubbornDeCaff. How does one do that?

To Hell with that. I'll just mount the NIB radiator. I believe I had explained earlier why I DIDN'T do that in the first place. Fan clutch is brandy spanking new.

Yeah cripes I'm lucky I even got as far as I did with that ridiculous setup. Let's a take a modern day laptop and teach it to talk to a 34 year old EPROM, then pretend to not get confused when nothing is comprehensible. SORRY, but I'm doing my best here with something that I just don't...

HA! Neither am I! I'm doing my best here to get live data. Problem is I don't know WHAT to look for, nor do I know WHERE to find it.

How so? They are definitely SBC heads and bolt right on (except for the two intake bolts). All the accessories bolt right on, and, once adjusted correctly, the valve train works as it should. Besides being a junk chinesium brand, what's wrong with them? Oh and yeah besides being angled-plug...

Heater core hoses are connected right where they should be. AH, so these heads are NOT Vortec heads. They are chinesium aluminum SBC heads.

Alrighty, then. I'll post the results up when I get them. Thanks. Ah, see now we're getting somewhere. Water pump and hoses are brand new. New thermostat is a 195°. That radiator, I pulled out the yard some time ago from a K2500. It's specifically the longer one - 34". The radiator fan...

That's not normal? Running lean maybe? Couldn't be due to excessive spark advance because it ran to 225 even before I advanced the base timing to 12°. Fine! Can you teach this software-ignorant person how to do that? I have not confirmed fuel pressure, at all, since I've gotten it...

First real test drive today, after V8 swap.

Managed to get this far. This is as I'm just sitting here idling, at operating temperature, after a "spirited" test drive. Things were actually going sort of ok. Seems like as soon as the engine temp gets around 225~ish, that's when the oil pressure tanks. That's also when the engine...

Indeed. I had to wait for account activation before I could download anything. Working on it now.

Well, technically, they are lol. Everyone tried to tell me that the intake manifold thread bores were "off angle", right out of the box. As usual, I didn't listen and did my own thing. You all were correct. I had to modify the intake to make it fit. Isn't that technically a faulty head?

It might not seem like it, but that's exactly what I'm trying to do with this Tunerpro thing. I'm genuinely curious to see the results, myself.

They better not have been. I had to come up with the money to pay for those books, study and learn from them, then earn a degree with that knowledge. THEN, I had to pay that money back! I'm sure I'm NOT the only one!
